Euglena sanguinia

Euglena sanguinia is a single-cell algae, known for its red color. This color is due to the presence of the carotenoid astaxanthin, an antioxidant. Astaxanthin is responsible for the pink-red color of salmon.

Freshwater sample from Lumpini park, Bangkok, Thailand.
